Harvestella jobs – get that bread, baby

Harvestella is a new concept from Square Enix that combines the farming sim genre with combat and RPG elements. It features a town for you to live in, a farm for you to work on, and also some end-of-the-world disaster looming to break that lovely peace. Oh, so not a new concept, just a new Rune Factory.

Of course, there’s influence from Marvellous Game’s famous farming RPG series (check out our Rune Factory 5 review if you want that genre mashup right away), but there are some new elements that Square Enix is bringing to the table. One of them is Harvestella’s jobs, a new system that affects how battle works.

It’s the same word used in Bravely Default, another Square Enix RPG (because we don’t have enough of those, right?). You can check out how they work (aha, get it?) in Harvestella below. For something else to do with Square’s endless waterfall of new videogames, check out the Nier Automata Switch release date, or our Nier Automata 2B and Nier Automata 9S guides to find out more about those sexy androids.

What are Harvestella jobs?

Jobs seem to work similarly to classes in other games. They determine what moves you can do in battle and have specific weapons and skills attributed to them. Square Enix gave us a big breakdown of Harvestella, including some class examples.

A female character from Harvestella in a white, old-fashioned dress slashing at a strange green monster with tentacles coming out the top of its head. They are on dead grass surround by fantastical foliage.

One Square Enix mentioned is the fighter job. They’re “a physical attacker who can unleash swift sword techniques.” They also have ranged techniques, assumedly making them pretty versatile. I don’t know how that helps with farming, though. Check out a full list of all the jobs announced so far below.

  • Fighter – physical attacker with ranged moves
  • Shadow walker – twin blade-wielder that does mortal damage
  • Mage – a long-ranged attacker who can exploit elemental weaknesses
  • Sky lancer – spear-wielding wind-bending AoE attacker

That’s just three jobs, but Square Enix promises a lot more to come, so keep your eyes on this page as we’ll update it as soon as we get more information. Check out our Harvestella release date guide to find out when you can get to work.
