A Timaru man caught in possession of cannabis has pleaded guilty to breaching his court release conditions.

Samuel Keepa, 37, appeared before Judge Dominic Draviztki at the Timaru District Court on Tuesday, pleading guilty to breaching his release conditions which included not possessing or consuming non-prescribed drugs or alcohol.

Keepa breached, without reasonable excuse, his release conditions on October 19, 2021, in that he possessed drugs not prescribed to him after a constable found him with cannabis.

The conditions came into effect in January 2021.

Keepa admitted the cannabis was his own.

He had previously been warned about the consequences of non-compliance with his release conditions, which expire in April 2022.

Keepa had previously undertaken rehabilitation after a urine test in March revealed methamphetamine, cannabis and alcohol. He was remanded on bail for sentencing on February 23, 2022.
