Fewer free meal sign-ups affect Mo. district’s funding

The Neosho School District in Missouri is at risk of losing approximately $1.2 million in state funding this year because of a decline the number of families applying for school meal assistance since pandemic-related aid now provides free meals for all students. Officials say 1,800 students have turned in applications for free meals this year — compared with more than 2,600 last year.
