Police investigate a crime scene in Countdown car park on Moorhouse Ave in Christchurch.

A teenager is fighting for his life after he was attacked in a central Christchurch car park, and the offender remains on the run.

Emergency services were called to Countdown car park on Moorhouse Ave, Sydenham, about 2am on Saturday, after the victim, understood to be aged in their late teens, was found with serious injuries.

The victim was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition, Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Johnson said in a statement.

An investigation had been launched to establish what had happened and who was responsible, Johnson said. It was unclear whether the victim knew his attacker.

A scene examination was underway in the car park.
