Books, texts still focus on white characters

Many educational texts that feature nonwhite characters continue to employ stereotypes, and most fall short of mirroring the diversity of students in US schools, according to a study by the New America think tank. Texts are more likely to depict balance across genders, and racial and ethnic communities are represented in some texts, but without reaching the levels seen in student populations, says Amanda LaTasha Armstrong, a researcher and author of the study.
