40K to 50K teachers may be needed for universal pre-K

President Joe Biden’s proposal to adopt universal, free prekindergarten would require an additional 40,000 to 50,000 teachers to enroll 70% of children ages 3 and 4, an estimate from the National Institute for Early Education Research at Rutgers University found. The proposal, part of a social-spending package being considered in Congress, comes as some school districts report teacher shortages.
